Here I will share with you all of the food and drinks I crave! Just a little bit about me- I’m a 25 year old, who lives in the suburbs of Maryland, just outside of DC. I live with my husband Chad and our dog Ivory! I have a passion for cooking and I am excited to share my creations with you. I have no professional training and would consider myself a self taught cook. I do hope to attend culinary school in the near future to learn even more! While I spend my days renting apartments in the property management industry, I spend my nights jotting down new recipes and binge watching Food Network.
Emily Craves- how’d you pick that name?
I’ve been doing research for months trying to come up with the perfect blog name. The one tip I kept coming across was to think about what you like to cook and what a majority of your content will be. Well, I like EVERYTHING and I cook what I’m CRAVING. Hence the name. Pretty simple.
How did you get into cooking?
It didn’t come easy. I was one of those high school graduates that had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do- I just knew I wanted to get out of the house! (Sorry Mom) But really, I wasn’t like my sister who knew she wanted to be a teacher when she was about 3 seconds old. I went through a phase in high school when I thought that just because I liked to buy cute clothes at Forever 21, I should DEFINITELY be a fashion designer. Well, that was short-lived when I realized I would have to sew the clothes. When I went off to college, I decided I should be a Psychology major because it sounded cool. No really…I had absolutely no other reason to major in Psychology other than it sounded….cool. Ughhh…sorry Mom & Dad. Luckily after about a year, I realized that majoring in something that sounds cool might be a complete waste of money. Well before I left that school, I did meet the guy that would change my life…my husband Chad. And he’s the one that introduced me to my passion of cooking.
The day I realized I wanted to do this for a living.
Me and Chad moved in together in 2012 and pretty much cooked every single night. Now here’s the day I truly realized this was a passion of mine & I wasn’t just a fatty who liked to eat. Chad and I sat down to watch TV after eating a HUGE meal. We were stuffed. I sat down, pulled out my computer and started looking at recipes on Pinterest. I also flipped the channel to Diner’s, Drive Ins and Dives. Chad looks at me disgusted and says, “How can you even look at food right now? We just ate!” I thought about it and realized, I’m not looking up recipes because I’m hungry, I’m looking them up because I’m excited about the next time I get to cook! That’s when I realized if I could get paid to cook-I’d be happy for the rest of my life. Now I need to do something about it.
Why a blog?
While I’ve considered being spontaneous and quitting my job multiple times-reality then hits me. I need money. The hours at my current job, don’t really allow me to work at a restaurant or do catering. I don’t even have time to go to school part time. This was frustrating to me because I FINALLY knew what I wanted to do with my life & I couldn’t do it! Starting a food blog seemed like the right direction to go in. I could still live out my passion without sacrificing my job that gives me the financial security I need.
What will be on this blog?
Primarily my recipes. I will share some family recipes as well. From greasy burgers to healthier soups and salads-you will find every type of dish here. But let’s be honest, it will mainly be on the unhealthy side. Remember, it’s what I’m craving!
Now let’s get started!
